From Broadcast Television to Physical Computing & AI
Over 30 years in Emmy-nominated broadcast television production, reinvented through soldering irons, microcontrollers, local AI inference, and accessible maker education.
Guided by the core philosophy "Learn with me as I learn," VideotronicMaker proves that technical mastery in physical computing, robotics, and edge AI does not require a traditional computer science or electrical engineering degree. By documenting honest bench builds, broken headphone repairs, and late-night C++ firmware debugging, the platform demystifies complex technology for aspiring makers everywhere.

The Headphone Accident & The Power of Being a Learner
The pivot to physical computing began unexpectedly. A broken audio jack on my Sony MDR-M1 headphones presented a simple problem: I didn’t know how to solder. Despite decades working side-by-side with broadcast television engineers who routinely maintained equipment, I had always avoided that hands-on hardware side.
That small problem sparked a life-changing journey. I immersed myself in YouTube tutorials, ruined a couple of irons learning the craft, and successfully repaired the headphones. An engineering colleague then introduced me to Arduino and single-board computers like the Asus Tinker Board S and Elegoo Uno Starter Kit.
"I realized that the most authentic position to speak from wasn’t as an all-knowing academic authority, but as a fellow learner: 'Learn with me as I learn.'"
When I lost my job as Video Production Manager in late 2019, that disruption became an accelerator. I dedicated my full focus to physical computing, converting an ATX PC power supply into a desktop bench supply, building Arduino Lego clocks, and launching the VideotronicMaker channel.
